Kuwait Indemnity After 10 Years — What You Get
The Short Answer
After 10 years of service in Kuwait you have earned 7.5 months of basic salary: 15 days for each of your first 5 years and one month for each of the next 5. On a basic salary of KWD 600 that is KWD 4,500.
Once you have 10 full years, resigning no longer cuts it. Under Article 51 you get the full indemnity whether you resign, are terminated, or your contract ends.
The 10-Year Line If You Are Resigning
Before 10 years, a resignation pays two-thirds. The change happens the moment you complete 10 full years, so being even one day short costs a third of the indemnity. At KWD 600 basic:
- Resign one day short of 10 full years: KWD 2,999.
- Resign with exactly 10 full years: KWD 4,500, which is KWD 1,501 more.
If you are planning to resign close to 10 years, check your start date and when your notice period ends. Kuwaiti law does not say whether your last working day itself counts towards a full year, so to be safe, make your last working day fall on or after your 10th work anniversary. The resignation guide shows the same jumps at 3 and 5 years.
Kuwait Indemnity From 10 to 25 Years
Whole years of service, full indemnity (terminated, contract ended, or resigned after 10 years). For any other salary, multiply the months column by your monthly basic.
| Service | Months of basic | At KWD 600 | At KWD 1,000 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 years | 7.5 months | KWD 4,500 | KWD 7,500 |
| 11 years | 8.5 months | KWD 5,100 | KWD 8,500 |
| 12 years | 9.5 months | KWD 5,700 | KWD 9,500 |
| 13 years | 10.5 months | KWD 6,300 | KWD 10,500 |
| 14 years | 11.5 months | KWD 6,900 | KWD 11,500 |
| 15 years | 12.5 months | KWD 7,500 | KWD 12,500 |
| 16 years | 13.5 months | KWD 8,100 | KWD 13,500 |
| 18 years | 15.5 months | KWD 9,300 | KWD 15,500 |
| 20 years | 17.5 months | KWD 10,500 | KWD 17,500 |
| 21 years | 18 months | KWD 10,800 | KWD 18,000 |
| 25 years | 18 months | KWD 10,800 | KWD 18,000 |
When the 18-Month Cap Stops the Growth
Article 51 caps the indemnity at 18 months of salary. You reach it a little after 20 years: at exactly 20 years you have 17.5 months (KWD 10,500 at KWD 600), and by 21 years the cap applies, so the amount stays at KWD 10,800 however long you stay.
So after about 20 years, extra service no longer adds to your indemnity. It can still matter for other things, such as unused leave, which is paid on top.
What Else You Are Owed When You Leave
The indemnity is usually the biggest part of your final settlement, but not the only part. Unused annual leave, any notice pay owed and outstanding salary are paid on top. The Kuwait calculator adds leave and notice to show your full figure, and the complete guide covers how to claim.
